Terry Magnuson‘s Email


Terry Magnuson is the Kay M. and Van L. Weatherspoon Eminent Distinguished Professor of Genetics and founding chair of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine’s Department of Genetics, the Carolina Center for Genome Sciences, and the Cancer Genetics program. He also served as vice dean for research in the School of Medicine and vice chancellor for Research for the University. He also holds a secondary appointment in the School of Data Science and Society, where he serves as the chief research and strategy officer as part of the school’s leadership team. He is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the National Academy of Medicine. He was a member of the NIH Council of Councils, the National Academies Regenerative Medicine forum, and NIH’s All of Us advisory committee. He also served as the president of the Genetics Society of America and is a member of the Life Sciences Research Foundation review committee. The Magnuson lab’s research focuses on the role of mammalian genes in unique epigenetic phenomena such as cancer, meiosis, and stem cell pluripotency. Dr. Magnuson received his Ph.D. from Cornell University and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, San Francisco.
