Join the School of Data Science and Society for a seminar featuring Lauren Kucirka, MD, fellow in the division of maternal fetal medicine at the UNC School of Medicine.

Title: From Data Scientist To Doctor: Combining Clinical Expertise and Big Data Analytics to Address the Maternal Health Crisis

Abstract: Lauren Kucirka, MD will discuss her journey from data scientist to maternal fetal medicine physician. She will review lessons learned along the way in using big data to change clinical practice and national policy. Kucirka will describe the unacceptably high rates of often preventable maternal mortality and morbidity and why expanding large data resources in obstetrics is critical to improve maternal and fetal outcomes. Finally, she will describe multidisciplinary efforts currently underway to achieve these goals.

Bio: Lauren Kucirka is an OB/GYN physician completing her final year of maternal fetal medicine fellowship and a PhD trained epidemiologist with over 15 years of experience designing and conducting large data studies to inform clinical practice.
